Boost your Pregnancy Diet with Power Bars

I love chocolate! It is just so tasty! The problem with it, of course, is that it is addictive and fatty. That is why I looked for a substitute that will make my days sweeter but will be also beneficial for my body. I found the answer in natural homemade protein bars. Why? First of all, they only contain nuts, raisins and dates. And then, they are also super easy to make.

Now, let’s see why they are especially good for pregnant women:

Nuts – First and foremost, many nuts will provide you with vitamin E, folate, fiber and some essential minerals, all good for your pregnancy diet. Nuts are also believed to reduce the risk of allergies for your unborn baby. People who consume nuts regularly are also less prone to heart diseases.

Raisins – Raisins are low in sodium, contain no cholesterol and will provide you antioxidants.

Dates – Dates are a very good source of dietary potassium. Since your blood volume during pregnancy is higher than usual, potassium is very important. It will help keeping your fluids and electrolytes in the right chemical balance.

The Perfect Power Bar

I promise you that after making and tasting this power bar you will never go back to chocolate!

Ingredients

1 cup nuts
1 cup raisins
1 cup dates

It does not matter what kind of nuts you use. Just choose the ones you like the most. It is also fine to combine different kinds. It is important to use dates, since they act as the binding agent for the whole mash.

Preparing the Bars

In a food processor, chop each of the ingredients.

Mixed Nuts

Mix the chopped ingredients and pulse until you get a smooth ball.

Wrap the ball with plastic wrap and let it sit in the fridge for at least an hour.

With a rolling pin or your hands, roll the mixture to the desired thickness. I usually make it about 1-2 cm thick.

Cut the mixture to any shape you want and store it in your fridge or freezer. Separate the pieces with baking sheet to prevent them from sticking to each other.
