Organic Food while Pregnant

By now it’s common knowledge that organic food is healthier than non-organic. When it comes to pregnancy diet, the benefit is even greater…

Organic Food

I know there’s a lot of advice to be given to women that are pregnant and I’m sure you’re probably confused about what is right and what isn’t. This article isn’t to confuse you any more than you already are. In fact, I’m just going to point out some facts that will allow you to hopefully make better food choices while you’re carrying your unborn child. My hope is that you will also carry this through even after your baby is born.

Most people are aware of the chemicals, hormones and antibiotics that are used to enhance the foods we eat, such as fruits, vegetables, dairy and meats. If you’re a single person without children, you may not give this a second thought. However, now that you’re about to be a new mommy, I think it’s time to start making better decisions that will ultimately shape the eating habits of your child.

Choosing to eat conventional foods (non-organic) while pregnant could potentially affect your baby’s health, growth, mental state and even his or her personality. This is because the farmers use hormones to promote growth in their animals in order to provide meats and dairy in a quicker manner. If the animals are being injected with these hormones, then you eat it, don’t you think you will ultimately consume some of that same product? The answer should be YES, because you do. With that said, if you’ve noticed that as the human species evolves, our children are developing more quickly, a lot of them have mental disorders, learning disorders and we even have a problem with child obesity. This isn’t to say that genetics aren’t involved because in some ways it is. But there again, it ultimately stems from the poor food choices we make.

Organic foods are considered organic because they’re not treated with pesticides, if it’s a fruit or vegetable and the dairy and meats aren’t injected with hormones or antibiotics. These are considered clean and healthy foods and shouldn’t be overlooked at the grocery store. Yes, they can be a little more costly but that’s when you have to decide what the price of your health (and your baby’s health) is worth.
